As the season draws to a close, the UC High Boys Golf Team looks to achieve a tremendous amount of success at CIF.

   This season saw the team earn a League title as well as an undefeated record. Senior Michael Zhang said, “We were able to win the Central League twitle and went 8 and 0 overall. It has definitely been a great season.” Senior Salvatore Mauro said, “It was our first League title in over 26 years, and it was such a great feeling having been able to achieve that.”

   Players on the team have praised one another on their performances this season. “I think my teammates have done very well this season. They’ve been such great motivators, and their efforts were key to us achieving this undefeated record,” said Zhang.

   Practice and preparation have been key to the team’s success. “Along with playing for the team, I participate in numerous other golf tournaments, and I practice everyday,” said Zhang. “Improving mentally and not getting too frustrated on the course were both things that I was trying to improve on this season,” added Zhang.

   Coming into this season, several individuals on the team created goals for both themselves, as well as for the team. Mauro said, “I wanted to make sure that I could stay consistent and be able to put up a good consistent score. I always wanted to make sure that I would be able to step up when I was needed to.” Zhang said, “Personally, I am trying to win CIF. I would like to see as many of my teammates reach the second round of CIF as well.”

   The toughest challenge for the team was overcoming the one opponent standing in the way of the League title. “Christian [High] was definitely our toughest competition this season. We were able to defeat them and because of that, earned our first Central League title in a very long time,” said Zhang.

   Several memorable moments occurred for many of the golfers this season. “I think shooting 33 against Christian [High] was probably the best moment for me personally this season,” said Zhang. Mauro said, “Beating Christian and winning league [was a memorable moment] because of it was just such a great feeling.”
