Athlete: Senior Megan Shaw
Position: Center Field for UC High’s Varsity Softball Team.
Experience: Shaw played baseball for seven years before even trying the sport softball. She played in the league Twin Hills, which her brothers played in as well. “I was a utility player in baseball,” Shaw explained. She could play any position the coach wanted her to play. When high school came around, Shaw decided to try out for the Girls Softball Team. Shaw made varsity her freshman year and has played on varsity ever since. According to Shaw, junior year was very memorable because the team was close like family, and all the girls had a lot of fun. They were also very happy that they won CIF.
Background: Shaw has always played whatever sports her brothers have played. Some of these sports included flag football and karate. “A lot of backyard sports,” said Shaw. “My dad loved the fact that I did all of these sports with my brothers; my mom, on the other hand, wasn’t so happy,” Shaw laughed. Shaw doesn’t have any sisters, so being the only girl in the family equates to playing many sports with her brothers.
Quote: “Every year that I have played softball for UC High, we have won CIF. This is really cool, because I will always remember this,” said Shaw.
