The sixth annual Sights and Sounds Showcase is a fundraiser event for the UC High Music Department that will be held on Friday, February 21 at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center with doors opening at 6 p.m.

The Sights and Sounds Showcase is a musical variety show and fundraiser that is hosted by the UC High Music Department. “Many performances will include singing, dancing and playing instruments. It’s a great opportunity for students, faculty, and friends to broadcast their talent to the community,” said Teacher Brandon Corenman.

Sights and Sounds is a special fundraiser for the program, as it is their biggest opportunity to raise money for the following school year. “All of the proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction go to fund the entire music department, including the drumline and color guard,” said Corenman.

“There will be various types of performances throughout the night from different students, faculty, friends, and alumni. Some of the familiar staff performing will include Mr. Pores, Mrs. Hooker, Mr. Marcus and his jazz trio, and myself,” shared Corenman.

In addition to the main performances, there will be two pre-show lounges: a cocktail lounge for adults, which includes a silent auction, and a teen lounge where students may socialize and have a Thai dinner provided by Di Chan Thai Restaurant. There will also be gourmet desserts and a live auction during intermission (uchsmusic.com).

According to the website, tickets for students ages 5 to 20 will be $15, tickets for SDUSD staff will cost $25, and general admission tickets will cost $35. Additionally, a Thai meal will be available for students for an extra $6 (uchsmusic.com)

Senior Elen Poretsky has performed at the Sights and Sounds Showcase the past three years. “It’s fun performing at the showcase. You get to express yourself however you want and let others see what you’re passionate about,” shared Poretsky.

“It’s a great show to watch, because you get to enjoy watching fellow students and teachers perform. And, seeing the amount of support for each performer is amazing,” said Poretsky.

“It’s a really awesome show every year. We encourage everyone to come out and watch all of our talented student musicians, alumni, and staff while also helping support the program,” said Corenman.
