“ASB’s goal with rallies is to show school spirit, and to make the students go all out to get everyone pumped for that Homecoming game,” explained ASB President and Pep Rally Advisor Markus Dearing.
“Something special we did this time was the music video,” said Dearing. “We had the staff lip sync to two songs: “Drive By” by Train and “Good Time” by Owl City, featuring Carly Rae Jepsen. We decided to do this because a lot of students came up to us and said ‘we want the staff involved more.’”
According to Dearing, this year’s goal was to lean away from some things that were done in past rallies and try instead to get more students involved. “This year, one of the ways we tried to make people excited was by cutting most of the performances and being more sports oriented.” said Dearing. Representatives from sports teams competed in one game.
One of the ways the rally was specifically organized to raise school spirit was through decorations. Activities Commissioner Angelica Upham explained: “We had a big sculpture of a clock with gears. That was really cool.”
As for the performances, they were picked mostly based on feedback from students. “I had gotten a bunch of feedback from students on what clubs they wanted to see and All Male was the one that we ended up choosing,” said Dearing.
“My goal this year was to make sure the rally had a lot of energy, compared to other years when it was people just clapping, but not screaming. I wanted it to be so loud in that gym that teachers would be plugging their ears,” explained Dearing.
“One way we tried to get each class excited was by having each student sit with his/her designated year. Then you could have all the freshmen scream, and then the sophomores, and so on, and normally the seniors are the loudest, since it’s ‘their year’,” explained Activities Commissioner HannahMcCrory.
