The University City High School Prom took place at the Coronado Island Marriott on May 21.
According to Teacher Michele Fournier, about 450-500 tickets were be sold. “Some students don’t attend Prom and some brought people from other schools,” said Fournier. Tickets were sold for $50 per person. Discounts were given for students who helped out at the elections back in June and October 2010.
The theme of this year’s Prom was “A Black Tie Affair.” According to Senior Logan Stewart, the theme was chosen by the senior cabinet who believed it was simple and gave more options for decorations. The decorations for the dance were themed in black, ivory and dark red colors.
According to Fournier, the food was a buffet. The menu featured a variety of pizzas, as well as pasta and salad. There was also be a dessert bar including brownies, cookies and a make-your-own-sundae bar.
According to Stewart, the DJ for prom was from Kick Mix Productions. “We decided to go with him because he was the DJ at ASB and we received favorable feedback from the students that they liked him. The DJ also provided many extras, such as a video package that we booked,” said Stewart. The cost of the DJ was $2700 according to Fournier.
Besides dancing, a photo booth was also be provided as an activity, according to Stewart.
No inappropriate dancing was allowed. Consequences included being taken to a “time out” room for 15 minutes.
