Blood, comedy, action, and drama. What more could you possibly want in a TV show? This fall, the new season of hit TV shows includes the return of standout shows, Dexter, Psych, Modern Family, and Burn Notice.
Dexter, for instance, is one of the most enticing shows on the list of series to return this fall. According to the Deadline website, 2.2 million people tuned in to watch the sixth season’s premiere on October 2, an increase of 24 percent from last year, to mark the hit series’ highest-rated premiere ever and Showtime’s best original series opener in at least 14 years (deadline.com).
For those who have been living under a rock and don’t know what Dexter is about, Buddy TV’s website describes it as a show that revolves around a good-hearted serial killer, a huge oxymoron, but true nonetheless. His main goal is to murder those who have murdered others (the real bad guys), and by the end of the episode, he usually succeeds. However, each season has a primary serial killer that Dexter will go through all lengths to kill. With his family, career (He ironically works for the Miami Police Department as a blood-splatter forensic analyst.), and even his life at stake, Dexter Morgan manages to put the city’s best interests before his own, even if it’ll cost him in the end (buddytv.com).
Psych’s newest season premiered on October 12, its sixth season. Recognized as a hit comedy series on the USA Network, Psych is about Shawn Spencer, a periodic consultant for the Santa Barbara Police Department. He claims to have psychic abilities, when really, he just has exceptional observational skills and an eidetic memory. Along with his best friend and reluctant partner Burton Guster, they take on any case they’re offered, hilariously breaking the rules and desperately relying on Shawn’s memory in order to solve their cases and ultimately keep their title as “psychic” detectives (buddytv.com).
Modern Family is a relatively newer show heading in for its third season. According to the Ledger website, the show has brought home five Emmy’s and countless positive reviews, making Modern Family recognized as one of the best TV shows on television today. The show basically reflects the lives of American society today as it follows a rich husband with a notably younger wife and her son, his daughter who’s married to someone who’s less than ideal as a son-in-law, and his gay son who’s adopted an Asian baby with his partner (buddytv.com). Now, how often do you see a show like that? Modern it is.
Junior Sarah Em, a television devotee (when not doing schoolwork) is excited for the new season premiers this fall. Em said, “I’m really excited for Mos Def in Dexter, but sadly, I doubt they’ll feature his music on the show. I’m also really excited for the new seasons of Chuck, The Walking Dead, How to Make it in America, Psych, and Shameless.”
With the vast amount of homework, studying, and extracurricular activities, it seems the majority of students don’t have time to watch TV anymore. But here’s the thing with TV shows like these — you make time to watch them. So, let’s all be appreciative for the beauty of DVR and Netflix.
