The UC High Girls Soccer Team is dominating the field with their strong team chemistry as well as the outstanding leadership from their captains. With only a couple games left in the season, the Centurions are pushing their way to end the season with victory against tough competitors. Senior Captains Hayden Goldstein, Rafaela Mazzoli and Avi Schorr are leading the team to success with excellent leadership and strong communication on the field.
Schorr said, “This season is going well so far; we have tied and won most of our games. We have had only a few losses to teams in tougher Leagues.” The connections made on this team were not only formed from their hours of training but also by the supportive environment they’ve built together. “Since we lost a lot of players last year, our team chemistry is slowly coming together but we have been improving. In the next few games I think it will get a lot better with more communication,” said Schorr.
As one of the team captains, Schorr understands what it means to be a leader and how to assist her teammates so they can play at their best in practices and games. “Being a captain is fun, especially since I get to do it with the two people I grew up with. However, it comes with responsibilities. When mistakes are made, you have to take the blame and when things are going well, you need to be encouraging,” said Schorr.
Junior Evangeline Sipe, who is currently in her third year on varsity, mentioned that this year’s captains support the team and push everyone on the team to perform better. “They have great leadership qualities on and off the field. They’re a big part of this team and help us all stay accountable for our responsibilities. The team won’t be the same without them next year,” said Sipe.
She also shared what her goals are this season for both her and the team. “My goals this season are to become more confident as a player and try out new things in the game that I wouldn’t usually do. I’d love to go into CIFs this season, because our team is really close and we are a very tight knit group.”
Junior Audrey Forde shared a similar comment on the cohesion of the team. “So many of us have played together before so there has been great chemistry from the start and it just gets stronger every day we are together.”
Forde believes teamwork is the key to have a great game and to become a stronger team overall. “Our team is doing pretty good so far; we are taking every game seriously as we prepare for the League because we are trying to rank as high as possible,” said Forde.
The UC High Girls Soccer Team has a bright future ahead of them as the season is coming to an end. “I am looking forward to our League games by the end of the season because they can determine how high we rank and I’d love to continue playing with everyone,” said Forde. Together, their dedication and unity continue to push the team toward even greater success.
