CIF-SDS Update on Sports Return

The San Diego Section of CIF released a memo on January 22 detailing updated guidelines for sports’ returns to practices and eventually games amid COVID-19.
Low contact outdoor sports were cleared to return to practices starting February 1. At UC High, cross country, field hockey, and swim and dive have begun practicing with special COVID-19 guidelines in place (uchscenturions.com). Golf, tennis, and track and field are also set to return within the next few weeks.
Senior Track and Field Athlete Wesley Clarkson was ecstatic when he heard the news. “I had all but given up on the chance that we would get to have a season. I was pretty devastated up until I found out that we would be given the opportunity to finally play. I’m so happy.”
Head Track and Field Coach John Hutsel shared, “I’m excited that seniors who have poured their hearts into this sport will most likely be able to compete. Getting back to normal is very exciting stuff.”
