Senior Alexis Curtiss, one of University City’s admirable athletes can do it all. Curtiss excels in all three of her sports of field hockey, soccer, and softball. In addition to these sports, she also was a very successful and victorious quarterback in this year’s powder puff game against the juniors, and against Mira Mesa High School. Curtiss is a standout among her peers and said, “It feels so great to be honored, especially with all the great female athletes we had this year.”
Going through tough practices, games, and other adversities only to still shine is because of her hard work ethic. “I worked hard all year, and it’s great to finally reach this accomplishment,” said Curtiss. She stayed motivated to work hard, which was fueled by her senior year. “My motivation this year was wanting to go out with a bang! I wanted my last year to be my most memorable year,” said Curtiss.
Within her memorable year, Curtiss also had a memorable game that she will never forget. “My most memorable game was in field hockey when we beat Cathedral in strokes. This was really good because as I look back, I have beaten Cathedral in all three sports this year, which is a plus,” said Curtiss.
Curtiss has had her share of great accomplishments in her athletic high school career. However, her fondest accomplishment has been being League Champs for softball for the third year in a row. Curtiss said, “Winning our third consecutive League Championship was great, but winning our third CIF Championship was beyond great.”
Curtiss feels that she wouldn’t have gotten this far if it wasn’t for the support of her parents. “I want to thank my mom, because she never missed a game in my high school career. Also, I want to thank my dad for teaching me how to play baseball, which has transitioned me into the softball player I am today,” said Curtiss.
Because of Curtiss’ great success in high school, she received a full ride to the University of Buffalo for softball. However, after college she still plans to be involved in her beloved sports. “During college, I plan to be active in sports, and then once I graduate I want to become a coach or athletic trainer,” said Curtiss.
Curtiss is a dedicated sports fan and since she is involved in ASB as a sports commissioner, her life revolves around sports. “I like to go to all the sporting events to support the other teams. Matter of fact, I only missed one basketball game this whole year,” said Curtiss.
In this year alone, Curtiss’ resume stacks up against the best. In field hockey she scored 25 goals, in soccer had over 130 saves, and in softball batted over 500 — that is just the type of incredible year Curtiss had. Most importantly, she said, she kept her grades above a 4.0 GPA since freshman year.
Senior Alexis Curtiss couldn’t have done this great by herself. Her team and class were just as important and she acknowledges that. “Class of 2011. Class of Champions!” said Curtiss.
