UC High’s ASB is ready and committed to providing students with a fun and engaging high school experience for the 2025-2026 school year.
This school year is CCTE Teacher David West’s first year as ASB advisor and his co-advisor, AP Government Teacher Michele Fournier, has been an ASB advisor both here at UC High and at Point Loma High School. West said, “At Mission Bay High School, I got to work closely with ASB, so it is exciting to have an opportunity to lead and inspire our student government.”
ASB members said they have been making new efforts to improve the high school experience for UC High students with the new school year. West said, “We have two new commissioners this year. With our student store, we’re going to have a bigger focus on generating income with merch and food. We also want to have a bigger focus on student voices. We really want the campus engaged in the decision making with polls and surveys.” West said that students should anticipate a formal place on social media to give their input.
Junior Ashley Ordaz said, ¨We decided that we want more student representation and participation involved with ASB because we always feel like student representation can be better, and this year we have good ideas to achieve that.¨ Ordaz has been an ASB member for the past two years, making this school year her third.
West said, “It is true that there are going to be two dances this year. We want to focus on planning a killer Homecoming and Prom. If they want to do a Winter Formal, we might opt for food to be from a food truck, so that food can still be provided without it being included in the admission price.”
Junior Jensen Landrey is a new ASB member this school year. ¨Our main goal for this year is to make sure that it is year is fun, inclusive, and engaging,” said Landrey. ¨One thing we are planning on doing is making sure the pep rallies are much more engaging for the students and we want to make sure there are new games at every pep rally so it never gets boring.¨
Ordaz explained that Centurions should be expecting lots of festivities from their ASB this year. Ordaz said, ¨We definitely have exciting events planned, like bringing back movie night, but most of them are surprises so we can excite the students later on!¨
Ordaz said, ¨We definitely work a lot more behind the scenes than students can even imagine. There’s just a lot of work that gets put into the events, but we do it with the love we have for UC High.¨
UC High’s ASB is aiming to spread more school spirit throughout the campus. Landrey said, ¨We want to make sure that all sporting events are much more hyped up, instead of the last couple of years where we hyped up mainly basketball and football. We want to make sure there is a good audience for every single game here at UC.¨
¨We plan on doing lots of fundraisers, so make sure to participate to support your school and get involved,¨ said Landrey.
