UC High’s Softball Team has continuously brought on the heat this season winning 20 games, becoming Eastern League champs, and winning the San Diego Softball Classic Tournament!

According to MaxPreps, UC High’s Softball Team’s state rank has moved up by 17 and their national rank has moved up by 97. Our Lady Cents took on the title of Eastern League champions this year, with an 11-1 record (

Junior Pitcher Natalie Minteer said, “I thought the season went pretty well. Last year we seemed to start off pretty rough, but this year we’ve definitely improved. We won Eastern League, and the last time UC has won was in 2012.”

“We are really strong offensively, our pitching is really solid and our defense is awesome,” said Sophomore First Baseman Catherine Mailloux. She continued, “I think we could always improve our hitting when we’re up against a pitcher that is a little different.”

Senior Center Fielder Erika Silva expressed, “I’ve grown as a player by taking leadership as a captain, and learned to motivate the team. We’ve definitely improved both offensively and defensively.” Silva, the only senior on the team this year, will be looking forward to continue her softball career at Northwest Technical College

Freshman First Baseman Jayla Briggs said, “It’s pretty fun, we’re always in the dugout laughing. We always keep our heads up and cheer each other up.” Minteer added, “We’re all really good at communicating with each other, and I like how everyone gets along.”

Briggs reflected on her experience being on the Softball Team and stated, “I thought it was going to be scary when I made varsity as a freshman, but it’s super fun and we play a lot of good teams. Normally I play third, but I’ve been playing first base since I joined the Softball Team. I’ve learned a lot more about first base and how to position your feet, and I’m glad I have learned so much.”

“[Softball] is challenging but it’s really fun and rewarding. I’ve definitely grown in the sense that I am more responsible and it has helped me learn how to work with new people” Mailloux said.

There is no doubt that UC High’s Softball Team is a force to be reckoned with, and this is definitely not the last of them.
