Although 2022 was full of amazing films, 2023 looks to be a year unlike any other, with numerous thrilling movies of different genres set to release. Here are the top 10 movies to look out for this year.

10.) Renfield – Presenting itself as a comedy horror film, Renfield is about Dracula’s servant, Renfield, who realizes the immorality of executing his boss’s orders. After realizing his romantic interest in a traffic cop, he reevaluates his willingness to continue helping the well known villain, according to Variety (variety.com).

9.) John Wick: Chapter 4 – You can never go wrong with a hand-to-hand combat action movie. Following the same storyline as the prior movies in the franchise, this fourth chapter will incorporate more high-stake, thrilling action, with Wick’s continued objective of fighting for freedom against the High Table, a council of malicious crime lords.

8.) The Flash – Loosely adapting the comic book series, Flashpoint, The Flash will center on Barry Allen using his speed power to travel back in time in order to prevent the murder of his mother. However, like all great heroes, his powers come with consequences, such as creating the multiverse, according to Nerdist (nerdist.com).

7.) Inside – Fans of psychological films should look out for Inside. According to IMDb, the movie is about a high-end art thief who is trapped in a New York penthouse after his heist backfires. Locked inside with only artwork, he must use his imagination and invention to survive (imdb.com). Starring Willem Dafoe, an immaculate actor, the film has a similar plot to The Lighthouse and will create an explicit perspective of the consequences of isolation and loneliness.

6.) Barbie – Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, social media has been endlessly obsessing over this film. Coincidentally, it will be released on the same date as Oppenheimer, which might jeopardize both movies’ performance at the box office.

5.) Wonka – A prequel to 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the movie will tackle Willy Wonka’s early adulthood and how he became the candy man we know, according to Hollywood Insider. The movie has the potential to tell a unique story that revolves around prior Willy Wonka films’ themes such as poverty and wealth (hollywoodinsider.com).

4.) Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – After the success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Sony Pictures Animation is set to release the sequel in June. Viewers will be able to witness an older Miles Morales navigate the world as he continues his endeavors as Spider-Man.

3.) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – Nothing is better than a group of misfit vagabond superheroes adventuring the galaxy and stirring up unnecessary trouble. Serving as the bookend to this popular Marvel franchise, we can expect to see more of the hilarious personalities of each character and witness their bonds grow during difficult times.

2.) Transformers: Rise of the Beasts – Known for its amazing visual effects, this Transformers film will include the Maximals from the 1996 series Beast Wars: Transformers. The movie will most likely focus on the human and Transformer bond — like with Sam and Bumblebee in the first Transformers series, directed by Michael Bay. Moreover, the futuristic detail of the Transformers will no doubt astonish the audience and make it a memorable movie.

1.) Oppenheimer – Potentially the best biographical movie this year, Oppenheimer will tackle the story of the Manhattan Project and the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer in the development of the atomic bomb. Cillian Murphy, playing Oppenheimer, is the perfect actor for this role. He will bring the character back to life and portray real empathy, effectively grabbing the attention of the audience.
